Reminder 160 Lobby Meeting

The CVOC Board of Directors will hold a Lobby Meeting
in your Building on Thursday, 1/26/12 @ 7:30pm

If you have questions or concerns that you would like to have address by the Board directly, at least two Directors will be in your lobby to meet with you and respond to your questions and concerns.

160 Internet Connection

Pursuant the Board of Director’s memo of 9/14/11, Castle Village Internet Cable installations will begin in building 160 on Thursday October 13th.

The installations will be performed by experienced installers working for Panix, the company that will be providing the Internet service. The workmen will be accompanied by Castle Village staff during the installation when no one is home. The installation involves extending a cable from just outside and above your apartment entrance door to a convenient location in your home where you have your main computer or router set up (a router is required for wireless computing). This point should be no more than 50 feet from the entrance and, for best results, should be centrally located for wireless computing. The cable will be run along your baseboard or picture frame molding and terminated in a jack that resembles a typical phone jack and is best located near your baseboard molding. If you are not going to be home during the installation, please make it clear where you want the jack to be installed by leaving instructions and markers.

The intention is to complete 12 to 16 installations per day starting at the penthouse level and moving down the building one to two floors per day. The table below shows the schedule the workmen will try to follow. The schedule might change once the work begins and completion times are established. Keeping to the schedule also relies on your cooperation. Please make your apartment available on the days that correspond to your floor. Please call the management office to confirm your appointment and to let us know how access to your apartment will be arranged. If you cannot provide access during the time allotted for your floor, let us know in advance and we will try to accommodate your schedule. Installations can also be arranged on weekends and after work hours by in-house staff.

Thursday, October 13th – PH, 12, & 11th
Friday, October 14th – 10th, 9th & 8th
Monday, October 17th – 7th, 6th & 5th
Tuesday, October 18th – 4th, 3rd & 2nd
Wednesday, October 19th – 1st & Sublevel

PRECAUTIONS/PREPARATIONS
• Please clear a path to where you would like the jack placed and remove furniture and breakables from the walls.
• If there is heavy furniture that you have trouble moving, let us know in advance so staff can be prepared to help.

You are not obliged to have the cable installed but you will not be able to access the Castle Village Internet Service from your home without it. There is no charge for the installation at this time. If you elect not to install at this time, please reconsider as there may be costs associated with installation later.

Let us know if you were a VZAvenue subscriber. If your cable is intact, you can check your connection by simply plugging the old cable into your computer or router. You should be able to reach the web site http://castlevillage.panix.com (and nothing else). If you can, you will not need to make an appointment and you are ready to go once internet service is activated. If you cannot reach this site, let us know and we will check the connection.

160 Exterior Masonry Work – “9″ Line Residents

The contractor has mobilized scaffolding to commence work on Monday 9/26 along the
9-line as indicated below. The proposed work consists of demolition and reconstruction of brick at several locations from floors 1 thru 13. You can expect loud noise due to the demolition periodically for three weeks or longer if additional work is encountered. Please advise if you are experiencing water infiltration along the proposed drop.

Work will start at 8:00am and will close at 5:30pm Monday thru Friday. If
necessary to advance the schedule, work will be allowed on Saturday. Saturday work consists of drilling noise but loud hammer demolition work will not be allowed.

Precautions/Procedures
• If you are in proximity to the work area, keep your windows closed to avoid dust and debris from entering.
• Air conditioners will be protected with a filter fabric but it is best to avoid using them during the demolition if possible.
• In some cases, an air conditioner will have to be removed to properly perform the work required.
• To avoid possible damage to window and adjoining wall decorations, remove breakable items from these areas.
• Because of the bonded wall construction of our buildings, damage to interior surfaces of your apartment may occur during demolition. Any damage to the interior will be repaired.

160 Exterior Masonry Work – “9″ Line

On Monday September 26, exterior masonry repairs will commence along the rear of the building by the 9-line. The work is meant to address reported leaks as well as Local Law 11 repairs around the building. Periodic construction updates will advise where the contractor intends to work. There will be periods of loud demolition noise as the workers move from drop to drop. To avoid dust infiltration into your apartment, occupants near areas where work is being done should keep their windows closed. Garden areas below where work is proceeding will be cordoned off. For your own safety, please avoid crowing over the areas fenced off.

Work will start at 8:30am and will close at 5:30pm Monday thru Friday. If necessary to advance the schedule, work will be allowed on Saturday. Saturday work consists of drilling but loud hammer demolition work will not be allowed.

In order to protect the city’s water supply, the Dep’t. of Environmental Protection requires that all residential buildings the size of Castle Village install Back-Flow Preventers at the point where the service enters the building. Ashokan Plumbing has been contracted do this work. Your building is scheduled to be done on Friday April 1st and connections will be made in the afternoon.
